I was given a new-to-me Samsung monitor which had previously been used in a security camera situation.  It's works fine, but when I leave the computer it defaults to a black window which reads as follows:

No Cable Connected
HDMI1
(1)Check the cable connections and the settings of your source device.
(2)Press SOURCE on your remote to select connected source device.

After this window scrolls for a while, the monitor shuts down and I have to push the button on the back to get it going again.

I have Windows 10-Home but have not been able to find any monitor settings.

A typical monitor flat panel will have buttons normally on the side or bottom, by the power button. On a Samsung monitor you need to change it to PC and not AV (Audio Video HDMI). If you can find the model number, then I'm sure there is a manual available for it.

It's a trial and error normally the button on the top are furthest to the left gets you to the settings. the next two are used to move up and down, then the last fourth button is to get in the specific settings.

When done the top most or left button is to exit.

I hope they didn't design it to only work from a remote control, that you may not have.

OK, I can find a manual online.  I have looked the monitor over and don't see any other switches besides the on/off button on the back.

I noticed that there are two HDMI IN slots on the back:

1 (STB)
2 (DVI)

Is it possible it's plugged in to the wrong place?

It sounds like your computer is going to sleep, but not the monitor.

In your Windows 10 search box, start typing: power options and select that when it appears. On the left, you should see "Choose when to turn off the display". Make sure that is not set to never.
