Help with Swedish PC

I have been trying to help Marcosson with his pc.

I had him run over to pcpitstop to run the full tests so I could take a look under the hood.

Here are his results...

if you look at the "Customized Tune-up Tips" in the yellow box and click on "Check disabled devices" you will see that there are a couple of devices that are not enabled.  But it seems to be in Swedish.

I had him do the following.

Click Start | Settings | Control Panel | System
Select the Device Manager tab. You should see the device listed with either a red "X" or yellow exclamation point icon, indicating it is not working properly.

But he could not find anything with a red X or yellow exclamation.  Just something with a green check mark.

He was having problems figuring it out, because it was all in Swedish.  He speaks the language.  He is from Sweden, but he is an american.  So I would imagine that swedish computer technical words would be hard for us who just learned the language.

Can anyone help?

btw...I had him change his cache speed to 80 and going to have him defrag as well.

he just installed spybot as well.

Any suggestions or help for him?

That´s the driver for the video-card.
The error code says it´s malfunctioning, what does the user say?
Maybe a reinstallation of the video-driver could help if it doesn´t work properly.
But do not forget to uninstall the old drivers

As a I can see, he needs to clean out files on his C-drive to free space. Windows will need more than that for the virtual memory.

I am thinking he needs to run ccleaner or cleanup.  But don't know if he would be able to download it.  There isn't much room for any more downloads....lol

Diehard or anyone else.....can you possibly walk him thru the steps to get rid of his temporary files and such?  I am at the library and need to leave soon.

I'd appreciate it.

About a year ago I purchased and installed the hardware that enabled me to watch television on the computer. Last spring I decided to (evidently misstakenly) remove programs that I thought were unnecessary. This caused the television to stop functioning. As far as I can tell, this has not caused any other system operating problems.

This may help with regard to manually cleaning the temp files. 

Delete the following directory contents (but not the directory folder):
1.  C:\Windows\Temp\
2.  C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\ <=This will delete all your cached internet content including cookies.
3.  C:\Documents and Settings\<Your Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
4.  C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\
5.  C:\Documents and Settings\<Any other users Profile>\Local Settings\Temp\
6.  Empty your "Recycle Bin".

Other actions:

If downloaded software programs are being stored in a folder or on the desktop, consider deleting them or moving to CD or diskette storage.

Review software programs on the computer and consider uninstalling via Add/Remove Programs any that are no longer used or wanted.  For example, are any games no longer played that can be reinstalled if wanted later? 

In addition to defrag (best done in safe mode), how about running Disk Cleanup?  (Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup).  After there's a bit more breathing space, there shouldn't be a problem with installing CCleaner.

Thanks Corrine for your help. I did those things you suggested - freed up 15% on both the C and F drives. Managed to defrag C in the safe mode but was unable to do so with F (computer kept freezing), so I defragged F in the normal mode.

Where would you suggest I find a CCleaner to download?

Marcosson, here are the instructions I generally provide for using CCleaner:

To use CCleaner to assist in this process, please follow these instructions:

1. Before first use, check under Options > Advanced > UNcheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours".
2. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
3. To protect logon cookies that you wish to retain, under Options > Cookies.  Select and using the arrow move those cookies to the "Cookies to keep" column.
4. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:

Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section.
Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:

Clean all in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

5. Then click the "Run Cleaner" button and it will scan and clean your system.
6. Click exit[/list]

I generally do not recommend using the Issues tab unless the person is comfortable with registry removals.  CCleaner has a registry backup option in the options setup.

Thanks everyone for helping Marcosson out!  It is hard for me to get all the explainations out from the library here.  If others need the computer I can get kicked off the computer so someone else can use it, and then back on when they are done.  Which doesn't help if I am in the middle of trying to explain things.  lol

NOT to mention, I am not real comfortable yet with using ccleaner or cleanup, yet.  Your instructions you gave him, Corrine will be beneficial to me as well.

I knew you guys would be able to help him out!  hehehe
