I just got a notice that there is a new version on Windows 10. The old one is version 1703 now 1803. It also says if I don't like it I can go back. My question is should I update to the new version.

As always thanks
Mary

Hi, Mary.  Since Windows Version 1803 was released in April and you have a new computer, yes.  We can tell you how to go back if there are any issues.  However, I would not expect your new PC to have a problem with the new version.  Most likely, you'll be offered the Windows Build 1809 in the near future as well.

The process of upgrading to a new version is that after Windows Update starts the download, you can keep working. Don't turn off your computer.  You will be prompted when it is time to restart the computer to install the update.  Note that the installation process may take a while and it will restart a couple of times during that process. Just let it do its thing.

As always thank you Corrine. I just don't want to download anything that is not necessary.  I will do it tomorrow.

Pete!

Reminded me to ask.
I had some atypical problems with 1809 when it first came out, and went back to 1803.

My "update history" still shows it 1809 as one of my updates.
All my other updates are for 1803.
Running "winver" confirms that I'm actually running 1803.

Is MS still "holding back" 1809 on older (2013) machines when "check for updates" is run, or is my previous upgrade misleading the update function?

I'm tempted to update manually, but not if the same problems are unsolved.

Corrine

Yes, Microsoft is still holding back on older machines.  Although my 2008 desktop is running the latest Insider Builds, my 2008 laptop has not been offered 1809 yet.
